In 1988 a little boy saved all his pocket money from cleaning neighbours cars and bought a Kyosho Optima Mid Custom special from Jim Davies models in Tamworth. For the next 5 years he spent his time and money on the hobby he loved because he enjoyed the atmosphere, the track side banter, the competition and, well, messing with model cars.

His parents didn’t like the burn marks in the carpet from when his SCE batteries ignited nor did his dad like it when the car battery he used to charge off, fell over in the boot of his new company car spilling acid which ate big holes in his boot lining.

Jim Davies models was the driving force behind my passion, especially the shop which had a track outside that we could practice on, race on in the evenings and hang around at weekends. Wayne Davies who ran the shop always stocked the best and latest stuff, and lots of it! He knew how customer care should be done and he knew how to sell it to us, and boy did we want it, anything to make us go that bit faster.

That little boy grew up and found other distractions. After a 13 year gap and a good career in sales and marketing in the IT Software sector I got back into the sport expecting it to have progressed. Indeed the technology had progressed but the clubs and shops hadn’t. Where was the track and shop combination like Jim Davies had in the 80s? Where was the place to hang around, test your cars, drink coffee, relax, make friends, compare notes, setups and have a laugh?

Ardent Racing is not just an online retail store, it’s a shop, a track (or two), a place where you can go, have some fun, test your cars, view and buy the latest upgrades from a shop. It’s what we had the privilege of in the 80s which seemed to have disappeared during my absence.

Ardent Racing and the Raceway are run by a number of RC enthusiasts and is run as a not for profit entity with all profits going to funding our hobby and the UK's number 1 racetrack where Derby Radio Control Model Car Club can call their home . We are all very proud of what we as a group have achieved.

So by all means browse our on-line shop and we hope you will try our service. But one day you must visit the Ardent Raceway and see what we have managed to cobble together. It will be an experience many of you have never had the privilege of having before.
